Kids quips...

Kael was calling the cat last night and this is what he said, 'Min-a-min-ow' :) It was just so cute!

Edie

She’s so cute when she tries to say some things e.g. ‘shriecket’ is how she says ‘secret’ :) Cute kid!

Blast from the past

Ok I've just remembered something Jordy did when he was a bit younger (before Kael and when Edie was a little tot). We were watching "Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium" the one night and got to the first part where the monkey was holding his arms out for the accountant (I forget his name) to pick him up. It's quite a sad looking little monkey and Jordy, feeling the sadness of the moment in the movie, started to cry. He felt so sad for the poor monkey. He's such a sensitive boy - and so sweet. I just love him!

On that note, I am SO grateful for all our beautiful children. They are all very special spirits and have added SO much love and happiness to our lives.

How blessed we are!

Our little walkie talkie...

Kael is now walking all over the place. He started at just after 13 months - the day after he 'turned' 13 months old. Now he's starting to talk too - he says words that are probably only understood by us but it's communication nonetheless so we are getting there. I love this age - from about 12m to 3y. They learn SO much in these years and are just so cute. I really am glad that we've been able to do this 4 times so we can get our 'fill' from doing it and not thinking, in a few years' time, that we want to have another baby because we miss the baby stages or milestones. I am happy that our kids are growing up and am loving that they are all developing the way they should. Being a parent rocks!!!

ps Kael is now 14 months old (just 4 months till Nursery - yay!!!) :D

8th birthday approaching...

Julie has been begging us for ages to let her have her ears pierced and I have always said that our girls could choose when they got to 8 because my parents had it done to me when I was 3 years old and it was quite a shock (I vomited all over my aunt - LOL!). And despite all Julie's begging earlier in the year, I stuck to my guns and finally the time came. We said she can do it before her birthday so her ears aren't sore and so the 'trauma' of it doesn't spoil the happiness of the birthday so we went in on Saturday and had it done.

Now it's not like when I had my ears pierced (in fact I think it may just have been the place we went to that made it so different) nevertheless, we went in, she chose her earrings and then they did it. Here's where it becomes a bit of a shock to me: in stead of a 'gun' which shoots the earrings in, quite quickly and less painfully, this one was like a stapler! It was literally like the woman took a stapler and pushed the earrings through my little girl's ears - with all the technological advances, you'd think they could come out with something even less primitive, not regress!! I was so proud of her because she was SO brave. She didn't even wince or pull away once. She did say that it was sore and not what she expected but she didn't cry or complain any more than that. I am truly SO proud of her - my big little girl!! She's a champion of note.

Jordy's turn :)
"Mom, I like it when my food is hot, it makes my boobies warm."
Gotta love it!

Edie's version of K'NAAN's 'Wavin' Flag' -> "Give me freedom, give me Friday..."

Kids quip(s) of the day...

This was a little while ago but I just remembered it:
Edie "Fee fi fo fum, I smell an English bum"

Kids quip(s) of the day...

So yesterday, Julie comes walking down the stairs, hair in hand and says, "Mom, I want to cut my hair - there's a whole bunch at the back here that I don't need."
Her hair was standing up a bit from the way she slept and she didn't like it :)

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

The other day, Edie was drinking some water from a juice bottle and Jordy wanted some so he shared with her (he didn't want to go get his own). When E asked where her water was and I told her Jord had it, she turned round to him and said, "Now it's full of your garbage (gobb)!"

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

Oh, back to Edie's birthday. There was this Nigerian woman visiting people in our complex (to watch the soccer world cup) and she had heard that it was E's bday so she asked Edie if she could buy her a present & what she would like. So Eden, in her sweetest little voice, says, "But I already have presents for my birthday." I couldn't have been more proud!

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

It was Edie's birthday last Friday (11 June) so she had family members phoning her to wish her and with each call, as she started talking, the first thing she said to just about everyone was "Happy Birthday" as though everyone's birthdays were being celebrated with hers :)

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Edie - "Mom, why you doing that?"
'Doing what, Edie?'
"Breathing!"
(like I mean, really!!)

Edie - "Stop talking, you're making me annoying!"

Kids quip(s) of the day...

On the way home from doing the morning work/school run, Jordy said that he smelled something nice, like a braai (BBQ), then he proceeded to sing, "Here comes the Braai!"

So I had to explain the difference between the sounds of the words 'braai' and 'bride' :)

I just love it!

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Yesterday, after feeling tired from running around after the kids all day and making paper flowers with them, I sat down to rest for a few minutes and Julie explained to Edie, "When Moms & Dads have been working all day, they need to rest because their bodies get tired from working all the time..." Makes it sound as though we are ANCIENT!!!! LOL!!

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Edie used to say something that I just remembered last night - don't know where it came from or what it meant but it was quite cute: 'Aboomiedye'... (?) :)

Fun in a box...

We bought veggies from our not-so-local veggie shop the other day and Kael decided to climb into the box they give you to carry all the groceries in when we got home :) Who needs expensive presents?! Kids and boxes - something amazing about the combination!
And with Kael's FIRST birthday just over 2 weeks away, he's started trying to walk. He took his first steps on Wednesday. He's still not confident enough to try more although you can see that he wants to. It'll be awesome if if does start walking by his birthday!

Having fun playing doctor.

Yes, it's possible! The kids were all playing a very clean and quite sweet version of 'doctor' the other day :) Gotta love 'em!

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Julie used to tell us, when we said 'Love you', "Wuvee too" :)

When we first moved up to Jo'burg, we stayed in the same building as my mom. This was from when Julie was 19 months old until Jordy was 6 weeks old and Mom moved closer to her work. Whenever mom came home from work, Jules would run up to her door, or walk home with her and all she would say was, "Lips". Now, you have to know my mom to fully understand what this meant... Mom LOVES her lipstick and (sometimes) wears rather bright colours. Julie, being a little girl, just loved this and so all she wanted from her Granny was "Lips"... :)

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

Ok, as Paul & I were chatting about the kids & funny things they've said, the other night, we remembered some really good ones from Jordy:
  1. Around the time he was about 2, we used to watch the movie, Prince of Egypt a fair amount so when he'd get cross, the ultimate insult to us would be, "You're the Prince of Egypt!!"
  2. Also, when he was about 2, he used to tell us that he was "Stalkerman". We thought it a bit weird that he'd make up a strange superhero with that name but left it until one day... We were watching Toy Story and it dawned on me what he was actually saying -> Star Command! As in, "Come in Star Command" :)
  3. When we go on long trips, we stop to stretch legs and Paul usually gets the kids to do some other stretching exercises. For some reason, Jord would lift his shirt, push his belly out and say, "Shookai". To this day, I don't really know what it means but all I can think of is that it was his interpretation of when Paul said, "Touch THE SKY"

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Julie - (I just loved this!) This year, when Paul takes her to school in the mornings, their route takes them past the Randburg Magistrate Court and Paul's been telling her about it -> what goes on there, why we have it etc. So this morning, on the way to see my mom (Family Day of Easter weekend) she asked us if we were going past "The Majesty's Court" :D :D

My boys in the bath :)

Just bathed both boys & this is how they were sitting, playing. What an awesome blessing to have two amazing, gentle, loving sons!

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

Last night I was remembering some of the names the kids have called us (variations of Mom & Dad).

Julie used to say I was Mommyette and Paul was Daddyette (like she is Juliette) :)

Jordy used to say Mommya and Daddya – and the reason this is so interesting to me is that Mark & Tania’s son, our nephew and our kids’ cousin, Warren, used to call Tania Mommya. He and Jordy are 6 years apart so Jordy wasn’t around when Warren used to say this...

Edie said Mommymia and Daddymia (after watching Mamma Mia at one of Julie’s friend’s houses a couple of times) :)

And... to top it all off, Kael has now (as of this week) started calling Paul, Dadda! Yay, he’s really starting to communicate with words – it’s so cool!

Out of the mouths of Babes

Kael is wanting to talk - he 'says' a few things already. When he wants something, he says 'Ta'. When you ask where something is, and he knows, he says, 'Deh'. Just yesterday, I was asking him if he wants juice and he said, 'Sss'. Slowly but surely, he is increasing the sounds he makes and it's all very cute. When he was smaller, he used to whistle. I don't think it was intentional but it was very surprising the first time it happened and then very cute after that. It didn't last all that long but it was pretty amazing to me - I believe that it is something some babies do though.

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Yesterday while driving home from fetching Paul from work, Paul said to this old man in front of us, "Go Toppie!". [Now, if you are South African, you know what this means... if not, then let me explain: in Afrikaans, the slag phrase for an old man (good or bad, depending on the context) is "Ou Toppie" Sometimes, this is shortened to just "Toppie" as Paul did.]
The kids, especially Jordy, thought this was hilarious so he was saying it over and over again... but instead of saying "Toppie", he said, "Tooffie". This is now the standing phrase for anyone who does something silly... :)

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Edie - Mommy, I think I have a rock in my throwit... (as opposed to a FROG in her TROAT) Hahahaha :)
and again...
"Cillerella"

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Edie likes to 'taste' Kael's breakfast every now and then so this morning, after she did her taste-test. she said, 'Mmmm, it's 'lishus!' :)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Kids' quip(s) of the day...

When Julie was younger, she used to say 'balilla essence' :) What reminded me of this was when Jordy said almost the same thing tonight- 'banilla essence'. I LOVE my children!!

Kids quip(s) of the day...

A little while ago, while having a bit of a temper tantrum (not a common occurrence for Jordy) he made a cross in the air with his finger and shouted at Paul, "I'll CROSS you!". It was so funny - we laughed SO much.

Edie & her goggs :)

Edie... This little girl is such a character! She's wearing the gogg's, riding the 'training bike' using her newly acquired bicycle- riding skills and is very serious about it all. She's so funny in moments like these! LOL :-D

Playing on the jungle gym

Kael has now taken to climbing up the slide on the jungle gym and he's SO
proud of himself :)

Kids quip(s) of the day...

Edie decided that she needs to wear her boots with one of her Summer dresses today and she couldn't get it on so she asked me to "Please will you bizz (zip) it up, Mom?" Funny - they have all battled to say 'zip' :)

Long weekend (Monday) at the church's Hartebeespoort grounds...

Ag, my little gogga!

My beauty :) Darn I love this girl!

No, the water's not cold, Mom...

Edie definitely loves her Daddy.

Paul and the kids in the water – they just can’t get enough of it! I wonder if it's possible to love your family more than I currently love mine?

They had such fun. It’s a really great spot and I’m so glad we went out for the day.

Kael having fun in the water

I just love the look on his face in this one!

This was one day last week while I was watering the grass - Kael just LOVES the water!

War wound # 1.

Kael is now the first one of our kids to have stitches.

On Saturday he was climbing the (tiled) stairs with Paul close behind him. He was holding on to the rail and Jordy asked Paul for something so Paul thought K would be ok for a couple of seconds and true as bob, he chose those few seconds to tumble down one step and cut his head just above his right eyebrow. So off to Olivedale Hospital we went and he got 2 small stitches.

He’s a trooper though and despite it all was smiling a few minutes after falling and again after getting the stitches.

Jordy's actual birthday

All the pics from Jord's birthday from opening presents to the big swim and 'ice cream cake' with Smarties sprinkled over the top.

My boys! Jordy really loved his birthday - it's so awesome to see the huge grins on his face in all the pics :D

The birthday boy himself!!

Edie and Paul having a good swim (Paul's wearing Julie's goggles!)

Kael almost slipped through the ring but Paul was there to catch him. (And in case anyone is wondering, these pics were taken with my phone so that's why K looks like a cone-head - it often distorts the subject when there's movement)

My first water baby... If she could, she'd live in the water - she should have been a mermaid!

Where has Dad gone?!

Ah, the breakfast we don't usually have... He'd been asking for these for ages so he got some for his birthday :)

Edie enjoyed the water too!

Check the look on his face - he just LOVES the water - just like the rest of them.

This birthday was all about transformers and we found some really cool 'cheaper' ones from our local Checkers. A third of the regular price and they are pretty cool too. He really wanted this army truck one so he was STOKED when he saw it.

Me & my birthday boy.

And of course, what's a 5 year old's birthday without Ben10?!

Dad & a very happy Jordy.

More Transformers - these were actually the McDonalds Happy Meal toys in Feb so I managed to get 3 of the 4.

Edie is going through a Dora the Explorer stage so we got her a DVD as her present (gotta love eBucks!)

The 4 of them getting ready to open prezzies!!
